Pest control

The control of pests is an important part of creating a healthier place to live and work. Pests are insects and rodents that invade our homes and can pose a risk to health. If you have a problem with pests in your home, you should contact Haringey Council’s Pest Control Team directly as they will deal with pest control on behalf of Homes for Haringey. They can also give you advice and, if appropriate, co-ordinate treatment if the infestation affects more than one property.

  • Call the Pest Control team on 020 8489 1335

(Please note: if you live in Temporary Accommodation the pest control team will require confirmation from us before a treatment is arranged.)

Homes for Haringey will pay for treatment carried out by pest control if your home is infested by one of the following:

In houses, flats or maisonettes

SquirrelsIn lofts only

In flats and maisonettes only

In flats and maisonettes only

Pharaoh ants

In flats and maisonettes only

Flat and maisonette balconies only

Bed bugs

In supported  housing schemes only

You can request a treatment for pharaoh ants, wasps, moths and fleas through the council’s pest controls service. If you are experiencing pest problems in communal areas your housing department will need to arrange treatment.

You can request a treatment for cockroaches, mice and pharaoh ants in houses but you will have to pay for the treatment.

Individual treatment: contact the Pest Control Team on 020 8489 1335 to make arrangements to treat the infestation. (Please note: we aim to start all individual treatments within 7 days of receiving the request.)

Block treatments: contact Homes for Haringey on 020 8489 5611. They will arrange treatment via the Pest Control Team who will write to all affected properties giving the date and time that they will visit to carry out treatment.

If they cannot gain access to your home, they will leave a card clearly stating the date and time of their visit. Your Tenancy Management Officer will contact you if there is a problem with gaining access to carry out the required treatment. We will give you reasonable notice if access to your home is required. Failure to do so may be a breach of the tenancy agreement and may result in action being taken.

Pigeons cause a huge amount of damage each year. Putting right damage caused to paintwork, window frames and brickwork by pigeon droppings takes money away from spending on essential repairs. The appearance of the buildings and the surrounding areas is also spoilt. For this reason you must not feed pigeons outside your home, if you do you may face court action.
