Two Housing Hero Awards for Homes for Haringey
Homes for Haringey picked up two awards at the Housing Heroes Awards ceremony in London last Friday, 11 May, 2012.
Haringey resident, Yvonne Denny, who lives at Edgecot Grove, won the Inspirational Resident of the Year award while Homes for Haringey Youth Outreach Community Officer, Marlon Bruce, 27, won the Career Development Star of the Year award.
Yvonne lives on the Edgecot Grove estate in Tottenham and has worked hard to engage young people and improve relationships with residents across the estate. This includes improving security on the estate, setting up a youth club, getting a multi-use games area installed, getting young residents involved in community work, and representing resident's interests as a long-standing involved resident working on various Homes for Haringey resident committees.
Marlon has been instrumental in developing youth engagement work in Haringey. He led on a youth film project that won TPAS Best Practice in the Community award in 2009, and manages our Young Advisor Scheme, which trains young people to advise organisations on how best to engage young people. The Scheme won the 20120 TPAS Best Practice in Youth Involvement award.
The Housing Heroes awards which are organised by Inside Housing magazine and the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), recognise outstanding work in housing which improves the lives of people in their communities. They attracted a phenomenal response with submissions from the length and breadth of the UK.
