Come and see out residents’ art exhibitions in our local libraries
Homes for Haringey residents have been benefiting from art lessons since the beginning of lockdown and now’s your chance to see a selection of the excellent art that they’ve created over that time. Art exhibitions at Wood Green and Marcus Garvey libraries have just opened that show off some of their work and from 1 June there will be a larger exhibition at Hornsey Library.
The art lessons were originally planned as group sessions to be held in Homes for Haringey supported housing schemes communal lounges. But when the first lockdown struck, the teachers – artists Pauline Holmes and Christina Louis Chacholiades – who together make up ‘Follow Your Art’ – had to quickly change tack to keep the project running.
Instead of in-person teaching, they produced a regular series of art packs that were delivered to residents and that contained all the instructions and materials needed for a new activity.
Pauline and Christina are now back running classes for people in the supported housing communal lounges where they can enjoy face to face interaction and a real opportunity to meet and make new friends and enjoy learning new art skills and have a nice cup of tea and biscuits.
The exhibitions contain art pieces by residents from five schemes:
- Sophia House (Seven Sisters)
- Bedale House (Hornsey)
- Brookside House (Tottenham)
- Cranley Dene Court (Highgate)
- Hilldene Court (Muswell Hill)
Last week three residents from Brookside House – Phillip, Virginia and Joyce – visited the Wood Green exhibition and had the pleasure of seeing their work framed and on display for the first time. Using a mixture of painted and printed media, the art is looks amazing. Why not take a look for yourself?
