Tenant owes £700 for unlawful clamp removal
Tuesday 17 November 2009
Residents who illegally remove wheel clamps face expensive court costs for damages.
One resident from South Tottenham was recently ordered by Edmonton County Court to pay £710 in compensation and costs, following court action by Homes for Haringey’s estate controlled parking contractors, Wing Security.
On 25 September, the court heard the tenant had either forcibly removed the clamps or conspired with other parties to forcibly remove the clamps, with the intention of not paying the charges that were properly due.The offences took place between 17 February and 18 March 2009.
Jackie Thomas, Executive Director of Housing Management, said: "We are very pleased with the verdict and will continue to take action against anyone parked without authorisation or removing clamps without permission."
Wing Security claimed for the loss of three wheel clamps, in addition to lost parking fees, administration and court costs. As the payment was not received within the 14 day deadline, bailiffs have now been appointed to recover the costs from the resident.
