Residents get together in Tottenham
Tuesday 5 May 2009
Line dancing, steel band, T-shirt workshop, talent contest, bouncy castle, and head and shoulder massage. These were just some of the activities on offer when residents from three neighbouring estates got together at the Triangle Centre in Tottenham on Saturday (25 April).
More than 300 people attended the free event organised by residents’ associations at Tiverton, Sir Frederick Messer and Plevna Crescent estates. The idea was to promote resident and youth involvement, enhance community spirit and encourage people of all ages to get to know each other.
Local police and the NHS joined Homes for Haringey with stalls and representatives to answer queries and provide information on their services.

A highlight of the afternoon was a special performance by MTV rap star, Wretch 32, who grew up on Tiverton. Local residents particularly asked for him to perform because of the positive effect of his music on young people.
The talent show winners were: Sharnee Ramsamy who got 1st Prize, Shaqile and Luear O’Neil Garding came 2nd and Jourdan Gvetanhi came 3rd.,with a special commendation going to Deltrem Zogas.
Organised with assistance from Homes for Haringey’s resident involvement team and the Bridge NDC, the event was jointly funded with an End of Year grant from Homes for Haringey’s decent homes programme and a Supporting Residents Association grant from the Bridge NDC.
Georgina Anastasi-Blake, resident and Chair of Sir Frederick Messer Estate said, “It’s very important for local people to have the opportunity to get to know their neighbours, discover what’s available within their community, and have fun at the same time. I’d like to thank not only those who funded and organised it, but also everyone who came and contributed to the occasion being a huge success. Although I have lived here for just two years, I feel proud to live on this estate and will endeavour to bring the best from our community.”
