Residents celebrate involvement with Homes for Haringey
Monday 3 December 2007
Almost 100 local residents attended their own private party with food, drink, music and guests at the Civic Centre in Wood Green, courtesy of Homes for Haringey.
The two star housing management organisation rewarded local residents with a special celebration to thank them for their efforts in joining resident involvement panels and helping the organisation obtain two star status following their housing inspection in August.
Wood Green resident Angie Buzzacott sits on several resident panels and hosted the event, held on Thursday, 29 November.
She said: “I first got involved with the resident involvement panels as I wanted to make a difference and find out more about how the housing service works. It was important that I had the opportunity to make a difference on the estate where I live. It has been a huge learning curve being a panel member and working with officers from Homes for Haringey’s Resident Involvement team. They have been extremely supportive and patient and now feel like friends so it was fantastic to raise a glass and thank everyone for their dedication and efforts.”
The Mayor, Sheik Thompson, Chief Executive Stephen Clarke, and Cabinet Member for Housing Services, Councillor Isidoros Diakides also attended the event to commend residents for their voluntary commitment.
Stephen said: “We’ve worked hard to get local residents involved with Homes for Haringey from the start. There are many opportunities for our tenants and leaseholders to have their voices heard and this has also been recognised by the Audit Commission. I am pleased that so many residents have given up their valuable time over the last 18 months in a voluntary capacity to work with us and make sure we are constantly improving the services we offer them.”
