Rent increase consultation
Monday 10 December 2007
Homes for Haringey are seeking the views of local tenants on the rent increase Haringey Council will set from April next year.
We are carrying out a month long consultation as is required on behalf of the council. The consultation covers more than 16,000 properties.
A final decision will be announced after the Council cabinet meets on January 22 2008.
The government has reduced grant funding by £3.7 million in 2008. They expect the council to provide the same level of service to tenants by increasing rents by an average of 6.5% or £4.77 to make up the difference.
Residents have until January 11 2008 to register their views using the leaflet feedback form; filling in the online survey, by email or by phoning 020 8489 2409.
Mike Jones, Chair of Homes for Haringey, said: “The council is responsible for deciding on the level of rents, but an increase of 6.5% will simply make up for the loss of government funding. This would mean that we would be able to deliver the same level of services to tenants next year, without requiring any cuts.”
All responses must be received by Homes for Haringey on or before January 11 2008.
