Passported repairs for Haringey tenants

Friday 6 July 2007

Homes for Haringey has become the first organisation in Britain to offer council tenants aged 60 or over or those with a disability an exclusive free online repairs service.

The arms length management organisation, responsible for managing over 20,000 council and leasehold homes in Haringey, is the first of all ALMOs and councils to launch its ‘Passport’ repairs service.

Extra services and support are now available for eligible tenants who use the online repairs reporting system, Graphical Repairs Ordering (GRO).

The picture based repairs reporting system instantly recognises those tenants who qualify and ‘passports’ them for extra services. The Passport service includes entitlement to non-standard repairs such as a broken shower rail replacement. Additional services include the installation of smoke detectors and repairs and replacement of toilet seats are also offered free.

Since Graphical Repairs Ordering (GRO) system was launched in December, over 450 tenants have used their unique passwords to report repairs needed in their homes. Tenants simply click on the image of the item that needs to be fixed and then choose an appointment time, including evenings and Saturdays, to suit them. Once the appointment is booked, a reference number is issued to check progress online.

Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Isidoros Diakides, said. “We are delighted to be the first organisation to use this system to address these specifications. Tenants no longer have to provide evidence of their age or disability when reporting repairs in order to check whether they are entitled to free repairs and replacements. The new system does that automatically.”

The system does not replace the normal repairs and emergency phone lines but offers another way to report a repair.
