Over 200 celebrate Wood Green International Day
Tuesday 23 September 2008
Homes for Haringey’s 2nd ‘International Day’ has been hailed an overwhelming success as more than 200 local residents turned out to celebrate in Wood Green.
Supported by the Wood Green Neighbourhood Management Team, the event, on Saturday 20th September, saw families and children take part in lots of fun activities whilst meeting their neighbours and local community organisations.
Held in the grounds of Commerce Road N22, a stage was also available where several young people showcased their singing and dancing skills, winning vouchers and prizes. Others took part in the free face painting, races and drumming contests.

Residents were also provided with free Turkish, Indian and West Indian food. Throughout the afternoon there was music, eco activities, competitions, dancing and a bouncy castle. Several tenants arrived in their national costume.
Mrs Patriza Meadows from John Keats House, attended with her two year old grand- daughter, Mya. She said:
“It was a lovely day, and a great turnout. The young children really got involved with the talent show and a good day was had by all. I attended last year and I’m already looking forward to the event next year.”
Information by local organisations including the Bounds Green Safer Neighbourhood Team, Hearthstone, the Fire Brigade, Asian Action Group, Environmental Resources and Green Roots Gardening along with details on services offered by Homes for Haringey and the College of North East London were also provided. Costumes were provided by Maria Joseph from the Mardi Gras Art Workshop in Tottenham.

Mike Jones, Chair, Homes for Haringey, said: “It was great to see so many residents from different communities coming together and celebrating. Our international day is an opportunity for local residents to also find out more about the services we provide and get involved.”
