Residents rejoice at Homes for Haringey Annual Open Day

Hundreds of Haringey tenants and leaseholders attended a sun soaked ‘Open Day’ at Wood Green Civic Centre for a fun filled day full of entertainment, prizes and advice workshops.

Organised by Homes for Haringey, the second annual Open Day was held last weekend (10 July) and saw up to 500 local residents and families pop in to enjoy live music, steel band entertainment, a barbecue and a chocolate fondue. A variety of workshops from how to become a resident board member for the organisation, to fire risk prevention and advice sessions on managing household finances were also available to visitors.

Homes for Haringey’s Decent Homes contractors, the NHS and Safer Neighbourhood team were amongst the 20 information stall holders present on the day. Also joining the celebrations was Tottenham MP, David Lammy, Councillor John Bevan, and the Chair and Chief Executive of Homes for Haringey Mike Jones and Paul Bridge.

This is the second bi-annual Open Day. The event had something for everyone with youngsters treated to face painting, a bouncy castle and goodie bags. A 24ft climbing frame erected for visitors to challenge themselves was popular amongst residents of all ages.

A series of raffle prizes were up for grabs including cameras, shopping vouchers, watches and a rice cooker. Olufemi Olubanjo, from Tottenham, attended the open day with his daughter, Folasade, 3, and was delighted to win a MP3 player, he said: “I’ve had a wonderful time.  This type of event helps bring the community together in a fun and informative way.”

Jackie Thomas, Executive Director of Housing management, added: “It was a glorious day and feedback has so far been positive. This day is dedicated to our tenants, leaseholders and their families and gives us a fantastic opportunity to provide information and engage with our service users.“
