Nominate your favourite Haringey volunteer

Tuesday 29 December 2009

A competition to find the most deserving Haringey tenant who is an unsung local hero or heroine is underway by Homes for Haringey.

The Resident Involvement team is seeking nominations for its second annual Rewarding Resident Volunteers Awards, 2010.

The housing management organisation will reward eight winning residents with prestigious awards including a cash sum of £300 each. Anyone who has gone beyond the call of duty to help others is eligible to be selected by neighbours, family or friends.

Nominees can be of any age and from any estate across the borough. The final eight winners will be selected from individual and group nominations. Each will receive a special plaque and cash sum of £300 to spend on community projects of their choice, at a glitzy awards ceremony to be held in February.

The Resident Reward nominees can be individuals or a group who;

  • changed the dynamics of their community by running a creative youth or supported housing programme
  • cleaned and improved their estate and got others involved
  • ran a positive campaign on behalf of their community

There are no specific award categories and volunteers do not need to be  formally registered. Nominations must be received by midnight on Monday, January 25, 2010.

Last year’s reward recipients included those working with young people or supporting older people, and active involvement in residents’ associations.

Once again, the event will also include a Special Grants awards for residents’ associations, sponsored by Homes for Haringey’s decent homes partners.

Application forms can be downloaded from our Get Involved page.
