New Housing Cabinet Member announced

Cllr John Bevan is the new Cabinet Member for Housing Services following election at the annual meeting of the council on 19 May.

The role has responsibility for Homes for Haringey and Housing Services, and will oversee the £200m decent homes programme currently underway across the borough. The programme will see up to 7,000 council homes improved under the refurbishment package.

Cllr Bevan will continue to represent the Northumberland Park ward where he has been a Councillor since May 2002.

As a former member of the planning committee Cllr Bevan is keen to ensure that new house building is of good design and quality.  

He has lived in Haringey for 15 years and said:

“Housing matters are a priority for our tenants. I am looking forward to working with local residents, Homes for Haringey and the Council to deliver the best possible services. I personally will be inspecting council housing at every opportunity and will ensure that new homes are built to meet the highest environmental standards.”

He is a member of Postwatch, an organisation that represents consumers for all Post Office services.

In addition to his current position, he is a member of a number of external organisations including cabinet member for the London Councils Housing Forum, the London Accident Prevention Council, the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority and the London Housing Consortium.

Former cabinet member for Housing Services, Cllr Isidoros Diakides, will replace Cllr Bevan on the Homes for Haringey Board.
