New Board Members for Homes for Haringey

Tuesday 30 September 2008

Homes for Haringey has appointed two new Independent Board members following its Annual General Meeting (18 September 2008).

John Morris and Jeff Henton will join the Board as independent and co-opted members for a period of three years with immediate effect.

Freelance housing consultant, John Morris, has worked in social housing for over 20 years. His experience primarily covers housing management, resident involvement and community regeneration schemes.

He has worked with several landlords delivering the Decent Homes Standard across London. Currently he is assisting tenants in Derby with prioritising their decent homes work by providing training on how to select and monitor external contractors.

“I joined the Board as I am particularly interested in ensuring tenants receive quality improvements that meet their needs and aspirations.” he says.

“Of equal importance is for Homes for Haringey to achieve its aim of providing an excellent standard of ongoing management and maintenance of the council’s housing stock.”

Co -opted Board Member, Jeff Henton is a Director of Rydon Construction. He joined the Board to “give something back”.

He added, “Becoming a Board member means I have the opportunity to contribute to social housing, which I care passionately about. Although I have technical and practical experience of delivering decent homes, I am keen on developing a diverse understanding of issues from the client point of view.”

Responsible for Rydon’s Social Housing team, Jeff has worked with the organisation for almost 25 years in a number of roles, ranging from Site Manager to Project and Construction Manager. As a director of Rydon he now oversees a number of new build projects and decent homes contracts across London and the South East.

Mike Jones, Chair of the Board said: “I am extremely pleased to welcome our new Board members into these crucial roles. They will be responsible for ensuring that Homes for Haringey continue to deliver a high quality housing service whilst operating in the best interests of local residents.”

The Board has overall responsibility on how the organisation is run and how improvements will be delivered under the Management Agreement with Haringey Council. It is made up of six residents, five councillors and six independent experts. Each position is voluntary.

The Board meets once a month, and is made up of three committees; finance and audit, service delivery and human resources.

The retirement of independent former Board member, Kathy Mohan, was also noted at the AGM.

Co-opted members have no voting rights.
