New artwork for Camspace
Friday 6 March 2009
Children from the Campsbourne area and local artists, Julie Beech and Norma Vendee, brought colour to Homes for Haringey’s Eastfield Community Centre on the Campsbourne estate last week.
Eye-catching mosaics, depicting the logo for ‘Camspace’ were installed on the outside wall of the community centre.
Homes for Haringey youth development worker, Rachel Fell, who is based at Camspace, organised a half term week of mosaic making for local children to create the logo of the new space to mark its recent opening. Young residents learnt the arts of sticking, designing, and grouting to create two large finished mosaics as well as their own small designs to take away.
Most of the children who took part were from Campsbourne Primary School, just opposite Eastfield Community Centre. Parents and carers were also invited to observe the activity and take part if they wished. More than 25 local people got involved over the three days.
Two logos were created out of multicoloured pieces of tile and mirror, with each logo made up of three large C-shapes in bright orange, green and blue to represent Campsbourne Community Centre (Camspace for short).
The project was funded by Haringey Council Neighbourhood Management team.
Paul Bridge, Homes for Haringey Chief Executive, said: Camspace is a crucial resource for local people, right in the heart of the Campsbourne community, so it’s great to see local residents so keen to get involved. I’d like to thank the artists who worked with the children to teach them new skills in such an enjoyable way.”
