Tuesday 10 August 2010

A recently renovated Community Centre in the heart of Commerce Road, Wood Green, has opened it doors with a host of activities over the Summer holidays.

Following the launch opening of the renovated Commerce Road Community Centre in June, the Centre now has a full summer programme for local residents of all ages.

A range of activities organised by Haringey Council including tennis, costume making, video production, print workshops, family fun and film making are now taking place over the school holidays. The activities are being funded by partners including Metropolitan Housing Association, Neighbourhoods, the Residents' Association (CART) and Homes for Haringey.

The Centre is also being used to host fortnightly Bounds Green Safer Neighbourhood Team surgeries. The first surgery will be held on 25 August. Drop in surgeries  will be held every fortnight at the venue. Decent Homes contractor, Mulalley refurbished the centre and use an adjoining part of the building as their on site office hub whilst carrying out Decent Homes improvement works in the area.

Cabinet Member for Housing Services, Councillor John Bevan, said the centre is already proving to be a huge resource for the local community. “The Decent Homes programme is more than new kitchens, bathrooms and refurbishment works. It brings communities and local partners together. It’s great to see the centre open and offering advice and activities for everyone.”

In partnership with Haringey Council, Mulalley jointly funded the full refurbishment of the Centre and carried out the work as part of community investment in the local area – made possible by the Decent Homes Programme.
