ESOL - English for Speakers of Other Languages

We want to help learners improve their language skills in order to enhance their employment opportunities or to help them access further education and training.

Haringey Council offers ESOL courses at the White Hart Lane Learning Centre

These English courses are designed for learners who are permanent residents in the UK.

Learners must:

  • Have a National Insurance number
  • Be registered unemployed
  • Be 18 years and over.

Classes available:

  • (Entry 1) Beginners
  • (Entry 1-2) Elementary
  • (Entry 2-3) Intermediate.

These courses cover English at all levels and use common situations as a way of teaching.

Themes include:

  • Employment
  • Travel
  • Health
  • Housing.

The courses teach you:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Listening and speaking skills.

Nationally recognised qualifications are offered at all levels.

We offer help with:

  • Intensive job search, including CVs, application
  • Communication and presentation skills
  • Information Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Numeracy (numbers).

When you apply for an ESOL course at HALS a language tutor will interview you. This person will assess your language level and together you will decide which class is best for you.

Length of course: 3 or 5 days a week for 6 months (Monday – Friday).
