Hundreds volunteer to join Homes for Haringey Board

Wednesday 23 June 2010

A record number of Haringey residents have responded to a call to join the Homes for Haringey Board. Over 300 local residents initially expressed an interest when the organisation advertised free training for potential resident members to sit on its Board, made up of Councillors and independent experts.

The organisation which manages over 20,000 council homes across the borough, is now providing training to 130 local residents who fully completed the application process.

The five day training workshops will help potential applicants to understand the role and duties of a Board member. Training was open to all Homes for Haringey residents including leaseholders aged over 18.

In August 2010 boroughwide elections will be held which will see six residents selected to the Board for a three year term. The elected residents will officially take up their posts as Board members at the Annual General Meeting held on 27 September 2010.

Governance Manager, Angela Bosnjak-Szekeres, said: “The response has been overwhelming. It has been really inspirational to see the enthusiasm and keenness displayed by all the applicants at the workshops.”

The five training session workshops cover:

  • An introduction to Homes for Haringey
  • Personal effectiveness
  • Having effective meetings
  • Making the ALMO work
  • Preparing for election
