Hundreds turn out for Commerce Road celebration

Tuesday 21 September 2010

Residents living around Commerce Road in Wood Green, N22 have celebrated an afternoon of entertainment, treatments and activities, at the 4th International Community Day.

Over 200 residents spent Saturday 18 September receiving pedicures and massages, taking part in a talent show and numerous activities held within the refurbished community centre and surrounding grounds. Organised by the local Resident Association (CART), the annual event was also supported by Homes for Haringey, Haringey Council and Metropolitan Housing Partnership.

Alongside T-shirt design workshops, competitions and career counselling advice were information stalls hosted by the Safer Neighbourhood team, 4YP and Homes for Haringey. A DJ base station was on hand for youngsters to practise their DJ skills in addition to eco activities, Dr Bike, international cuisine and face painting.

One lucky winner Rochelle Anderson, 10, won an I-pod touch donated by Decent Homes contractor, Mulalley, who also provided goodie bags on the day.

Homes for Haringey’s Senior Resident Involvement officer, Sheryl Hendrickson, said: “I’m very pleased that so many residents took part in activities and signed up for courses and workshops. International community day provides the platform for local residents to find out all about our services whilst having fun with their neighbours.”

Mulalley Director, Bruce Benson added: “We were thrilled to donate the ipod touch to the raffle and our goody bags for the children in the local community. Our work in Haringey sees us working in a very diverse community and International Day brings together these cultures and traditions, which is something we are pleased to be part of.”

Healthy living, gardening and recycling tips were featured as part of this year’s health and wellbeing theme.
