Homes for Haringey to host first Anti Social Behaviour Summit
Friday 26 February 2010
Homes for Haringey is to host a half day summit event aimed at bringing residents and registered social landlords together to tackle anti social behaviour in Haringey. The summit will be held at the Civic Centre on Monday, March 8 from 10am -1pm.
The organisation is working with a range of partners, including Haringey Council, the Police and representatives from all tenant and resident associations. All registered social landlords and safer neighbourhood teams have been invited to the event, along with schools, local magistrates and the Tenant Services Authority.
Speakers will include Cllr Nilgun Canver, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Safer Communities, David Lammy MP, Peter Jackson, director of the Social Landlords Crime and Nuisance Group and Aaron Devereaux from the Home Office’s ASB unit.
Jackie Thomas, Executive Director of Housing Management, said; “Tackling anti social behaviour is a key issue for our tenants. Residents have clearly told us that it is something that they are concerned about and that they particularly want us to focus on day to day nuisance that effects the quality of the environment. The summit is a way to bring officers and residents together to explore further ideas in dealing with issues.
There will also be a range of workshops discussing specific parts of the problem, including the role of tenants and landlords, parenting and support and help for victims and witnesses.
Cllr Canver said:“We already take effective action against anti social behaviour, but there is always more that can be done.“Low level anti social behaviour is of particular concern to many residents, particularly tenants on housing estates.“The aim of the summit is to come up with practical ways in which we can take action to combat the problem.”
