Homes for Haringey steers new vehicles

Thursday 30 July 2009

Carpenters, plumbers and other Homes for Haringey trades people are getting behind the wheels of brand new Homes for Haringey branded, Ford transit vehicles. Bob Watts, Executive Director of Repairs, was on hand with Chief Executive, Paul Bridge, to receive the first instalment of vans ranging from Connect and Transit vans to tipper trucks, delivered to the depot last Thursday (23 July).

Homes for Haringey's new van fleet

The new vehicles have been leased from Grosvenor Contracts Leasing Limited on a four year lease and will gradually replace all existing vehicles by April 2010. They have been kitted out according to trade with purpose built racking, tail lifts and roof racks to ensure the correct transportation of materials. Every vehicle carries the Homes for Haringey logo in addition to NICEIC and Gas safety logos.

Environmental issues have also been considered. Drivers of the new vans will clock up fewer miles because they won’t have to return to the depot to re-fuel. Instead, discount fuel cards, obtained through the Procurement for Housing network, allow them to fill up at any Shell, Esso or Total petrol station on their route.

According to Bob Watts, the new fleet will operate at the highest level of efficiency. The new arrangement has resulted in overall savings of £900k. Bob said: “We are very pleased with this new fleet of vehicles.  Significant value for money savings have been made and features such as improved racking mean our operatives can now carry the right equipment and materials enabling them to complete more repair jobs on their first visit. Ultimately this will improve service delivery to our customers which is what we are all about.”
