Local resident Gloria Uchendu has joined Homes for Haringey as the organisations’ first volunteer Resident Worker. She was selected for the 12 month position which will lead to her obtaining a Housing Management Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) certificate qualification.

Over the year Gloria will support a number of different teams including the repairs control centre, tenancy management and resident involvement teams. She will also attend seven two-day external workshop based training sessions in partnership with the PEP Trust, NewmanFrancis consultants and Prentis Recruitment Solution who are providing full career guidance.
Gloria, a mother of two daughters aged nine and 11, lives in Northumberland Park, Tottenham. She formerly worked in a job centre and had already partly studied for a CIH Housing Level 2 qualification at Hackney College.
She said: “I have always been interested in a career in social housing so this role is ideal for me. Every week is different. I love the variety of work across the various teams. One of my main tasks is to co-ordinate resident feedback so Homes for Haringey can get more ideas about how residents view the services, what they would like to see in the future, and how we can better involve them in this work.”
Homes for Haringey’s organisational development manager, Jennie Wyatt, added: “This is a hands-on work experience role which will develop Gloria’s skill set. In addition to her study assignments, we will ensure she has first-hand practical experience on a range of projects, which complement her studies towards the Neighbourhood Worker certificate.”
