Homes for Haringey hosts Women's Forum event
Thursday 11 November 2010
Women from across the borough have got together for advice, support and pampering treatments at a Women’s Forum, hosted by Homes for Haringey.
More than 20 female residents of all ages and backgrounds attended the event held in the Wood Green based Commerce Road Community Centre on Monday 1 November. They had the choice of receiving face to face advice on career and benefits, learning more about the tenancy services available from Homes for Haringey, speaking with the Safer Neighbourhood Team or could simply receive a head and shoulder massage from Holistic Healing show masseurs. Other presentations, also translated in Greek, Somali and Turkish, included:
- How to eat healthy, NHS Haringey
- Rent collection and advice, Income Collection team
- Breast, Cervical and Bowel Cancer Screening advice, National Health Service
- Job and Benefit advice, Haringey Guarantee

Sheryl Hendrickson, Senior Resident Involvement officer, said: “The Women’s Forum is a great way for us to engage with tenants and discover how we can assist with their needs first hand.”
The results of the Annual Participant Questionnaire also gave feedback from tenants involved with panels and Residents Associations; using an interactive voting system, 80% of respondents said they were satisfied with the work of the Women’s Forum.
Tottenham resident, Georgina Michael, added: “It was a really nice event. This is the second Women’s Forum event I have attended and it is extremely useful to find out about so much different services offered locally in the community. It's lovely meeting up with other women and a real treat to just relax with a head and shoulder massage.”
