Homes for Haringey completes Decent Homes work for sheltered housing
Thursday 15 December 2011
Following a 14-month refurbishment programme, 25 sheltered housing units owned by Haringey Council and managed by Homes for Haringey, have now achieved the Decent Homes standard.

Over 830 properties in the 25 sheltered housing units in Haringey have benefited from the £5.8 million worth of Decent Homes works since the programme started in September 2010. The works, contracted to the Breyer Group PLC, involved modernising kitchens and bathrooms, updating electrical systems to meet revised safety standards, replacing boiler units, roof works and fitting new front doors and windows, based on surveys carried out prior to the works.
Mary Marchi is Homes for Haringey Board member and lives at Bigbury Close, a sheltered housing scheme off White Hart Lane with 33 one-bedroom bungalows, where Decent Homes works had recently been completed. During the works, Mary helped make sure that residents had any concerns addressed immediately. “It is never easy for to have major works done in your home, but residents here have really appreciated the results and the workmen were absolutely brilliant. Every time I visit my neighbours, they tell me how happy they are with their new kitchen and what a difference makes to have a decent home.”
