Homes for Haringey celebrates 1000th decent homes refurbishment
Monday 2 February 2009
Homes for Haringey is celebrating the completion of the 1000th home to be refurbished through its five-year Decent Homes programme.
To mark the occasion, tenants Peter and Beryl Noden, were presented with a brand new freezer by housing refurbishment specialist Lovell, which is carrying out the modernisation work, and an M& S hamper plus a voucher by Homes for Haringey.

Peter and Beryl have lived in their three-bedroom house in Northumberland Park since 1973. They were the first to move into the development when it was built, and have brought up their family of four children there.
The refurbishment work carried out at their home included the installation of a brand-new kitchen and bathroom. In the kitchen, the Nodens were able to choose from four different options offered by Lovell for their kitchen worktop, units and flooring and were visited by a kitchen designer who helped them create the look of their new kitchen using a computer design programme. Mr and Mrs Noden opted for a cream colour scheme including a sand-coloured worktop, oyster-coloured flooring and cream paint. For their new bathroom, the couple picked a white bath suite, with white tiles and beige flooring.
Mrs Noden said, “We are really pleased with our new kitchen and bathroom and have nothing but praise for Lovell and Homes for Haringey. It was great to be able to choose what we wanted, and it’s almost like having a new house – it’s like a dream come true!”
Presenting the hamper and voucher, Cllr John Bevan said: “The 1,000th refurbishment is a significant milestone in our decent homes programme, which, over a five-year period, will see more than 12,000 properties brought up to an acceptable standard.”
Ola Akinfe, Executive Director of Asset Management, who is overseeing the Decent Homes programme, said, “We are very excited at the progress of the programme. It’s great to see the finished product and to meet residents who are genuinely pleased with their upgrades. This bears testimony to the effectiveness of our delivery team and the hard work of all the staff involved.”
Steve Luker, contracts manager for Lovell, adds: “We are delighted that Mr and Mrs Noden are pleased with the improvements we’ve carried out and we hope they enjoy using their new freezer. Throughout the project, our resident liaison officers work closely with tenants to ensure that the work carried out in their homes goes as smoothly as possible.”
