Homes for Haringey Board welcomes Georgina Walters
Tuesday 13 October 2009
Georgina Walters has been appointed as a resident Board member, replacing Roger Downer, who retires after two years.
The mother of two, who describes herself as a ‘people person’, has lived in north Tottenham for over 30 years and is an active member within her local community.
Georgina brings a wide range of transferable skills to Homes for Haringey’s Board. She previously worked as an administer for a utility company and volunteers for a number of charities, including Haringey, Enfield and Barnet Sickle Cell support group as Secretary and former Board Trustee.

She also has ties with the local NHS hospital as a patient forum spokesperson. Now retired, and with her children living independently, Georgina spends most of her spare time making a difference by volunteering and putting her versatile skills into use. These include gaining additional qualifications as a beauty therapist and practising her skills on willing family and friends.
So far she has attended a Board meeting and the Annual General Meeting, where her appointment was approved, and says the role is ‘right up my street’. “As an active member of the community I want to use my skills to promote and build better communities and tackle important issues such as anti-social behaviour and help provide better housing services” she said.
At the Annual General Meeting (21 September 2009) the Board and the Council also approved the reappointment of independent Board members Mike Jones and Jonathan Card.Former co-opted member, Jeff Henton, is now an independent Board member. All appointments take effect immediately.
Chief Executive, Paul Bridge, added: “I am extremely pleased to welcome Georgina to the Board and confirm the reappointment of our independent Board members. These are crucial roles with responsibility for ensuring that Homes for Haringey continues to deliver a high quality housing management service whilst operating in the best interests of local residents. The Board and I also extend our best wishes to Roger Downer.”
The Board has overall responsibility on how the organisation is run and how improvements will be delivered under the Management Agreement with Haringey Council. It is made up of six residents, five councillors and six independent experts. Each position is voluntary. The Board meets every two months, and is made up of two committees; finance and audit and human resources.
