Homes for Haringey have appointed a new Chair and re-appointed the Vice Chair following its Annual General Meeting on 26 September.

Haringey residents Jonathan Card and Phil Goodwin will take up their posts of Chair and Vice Chair respectively with immediate effect.

Freelance housing consultant, Jonathan Card, has worked for housing associations in strategic and operational management roles for over 30 years. He is currently working on a number of projects, including an initiative with a network of local charities to improve their efficiency and value for money. He has been on the Homes for Haringey Board for over five years.

Speaking about his appointment, Jonathan said: “I am incredibly excited about this opportunity and look forward to working with colleagues and residents to improve housing conditions in Haringey. This is time of great uncertainty for public services and I am determined to take a creative, inclusive and innovative approach to our work.”

“I’d like to thank the outgoing Chair, Mike Jones, for his contribution over the last five years. Mike has led the company from its infancy, and under his leadership we have achieved a great deal, including the renovation of almost 6,000 homes and recognition as one of Britain’s Top Employers.”

Local resident, Phil Goodwin, has been on the Board since 2007 and is now entering his second year as Vice Chair. Phil originally joined the Board to “act as a strong voice for tenants” and has since developed his expertise in Finance, Human Resources and Asset Management.

He added: “I am passionate about improving housing and community life. While I recognise the challenges we face, I have the enthusiasm and tenacity to ensure we get the best for council tenants and leaseholders in Haringey.”

Paul Bridge, Chief Executive said: “I am extremely pleased to welcome Jonathan and Phil to their new roles and we look forward to working with them in the future. I would also like to thank Mike Jones, whose  leadership over the last five years has been invaluable to the organisation. Although Mike has stepped down as Chair, I’m delighted that he has chosen to remain on the Board and I’m sure he will continue to play a strong role in the future.”

The Board has overall responsibility on how the organisation is run and how improvements will be delivered under the Management Agreement with Haringey Council. It is made up of six residents, five councillors and six independent experts. Each position is voluntary. The Board meets once every two months.

The re-appointment of independent Board member John Morris was also confirmed at the AGM.
