Homes for Haringey announces Decent Homes Partners

Tuesday 3 April 2007

Homes for Haringey has named the four constructor partners who will carry out the decent homes improvement works to the borough’s council housing.

The council owned arms length management organisation along with several local residents selected the contractors from eight companies who tendered for the work in November 2006. The tender short list was drawn up from 23 contractors who completed pre qualification questionnaires.

Since then a team of residents and staff has put each through their paces. The robust selection procedure included a series of visits to each site as well as interviews with local residents based there about the standard of the contractors work.

Before the programme is finalised all homes will be surveyed to determine what work needs to be done to each one. Council tenants and leaseholders will be consulted about how the programme can be delivered effectively across the borough.

Cllr Isidoros Diakides, executive member for Housing, said:

“It was essential that residents got involved in helping to select these contractors. These organisations will be having a big impact over the next few years on the lives of our residents so it was vital we made the best selection in residents’ interests.”

Mike Jones, Chair, Homes for Haringey, added:

“We are expecting these contractors to help us deliver our decent homes programme.  The final selection process was dependent on a range of scores for each contractor from residents, the procurement team, health and safety, equalities as well as our sustainability and finance teams.”

In addition four construction consultants have also been selected to ensure that the contractors carry out the work to the right quality and that costs and health & safety are properly managed.
