Homes for Haringey accelerates its Decent Homes programme

Wednesday 3 August 2011

Over 400 homes are to be modernised earlier than expected - after pressure from Haringey Council and its management organisation Homes for Haringey paid off.

Homes for Haringey will now bring forward £4m of expenditure from 2012-13 into the coming year, 2011-12. This will enable Homes for Haringey and its constructor partners, Wates and Mullaley, to update homes earlier than originally anticipated. The announcement means this year's decent homes programme is £19m, an increase from the original £15m.

Cllr John Bevan, Lead Member for Housing, said: “This is great news for residents, many of whom have been left disappointed following government cuts to the decent homes programme. I would like to congratulate the staff and residents involved in putting forward a compelling a case to the Government to bring forward funding.”

Paul Bridge, Homes for Haringey Chief Executive, added: “This is the third year that the Homes and Communities Agency have offered us the opportunity to bring forward funding. This is a great vote of confidence from the Government who have recognised the quality of our Decent Homes programme and our ability to deliver improvements for our residents.”

Those residents earmarked to receive work earlier will receive a letter in September outlining plans for improvement works, which will include windows, doors, roofs and essential health and safety works.
