Haringey maintains 100% gas safety for 12 months
Wednesday 11 August 2010
Homes for Haringey has confirmed that every Council home in the borough has maintained a valid gas safety certificate for the last 12 months.
The record 12 month gas safety milestone was reached last Thursday (5 August 2010). Gas service contractors Oakray and Kinetics have issued certificates to over 15, 900 properties across North and South Tottenham, Wood Green, Hornsey and all of the Supported Housing stock during the last year.

Gowan Turnbull, Mechanical Engineering Manager, Homes for Haringey, said the achievement was due to team effort and wide publicity about gas safety. He said: “Strong partnership with our contractors, residents and a dedicated internal team has enabled Homes for Haringey to reach this new benchmark. Our priority is ensuring that all Haringey residents are safe in their homes.”
“Tenants have played an enormous part in this achievement and, thankfully, most are aware of the importance of the annual gas safety check and keeping appointments. We are looking forward to the challenge of another gas-safe year in Haringey.”
By law, the gas supply pipes and gas boiler in each tenanted home must be inspected by the landlord once a year. If these are found to be safe and up to standard, a gas safety certificate (CP12) is issued. Homes for Haringey manage this process on behalf of Haringey Council.
Last August the organisation celebrated reaching the government-set target of 100 per cent of homes with a valid gas safety certificate for the first time.
