Haringey leader welcomes Homes for Haringey apprentices
Monday 9 November 2009
Haringey Council leader, Cllr Claire Kober, has hosted a special luncheon to meet Homes for Haringey’s new apprentices.
The 10 recent recruits - including five women - started last month in the Tottenham depot, studying trades to become industry qualified plumbers, electricians and carpenters. They beat off stiff competition, over 150 applicants applied for the coveted three and four year placements.

This year, as there is no longer an upper age limit (it used to be 24), a number of mature people also applied. Some are mothers returning to work, or teenagers, career changers and people who have had some work experience in the labour and construction field but want additional professional qualifications. Ages range between 16 and 37.
The welcoming took place at River Park House and was also attended by Paul Bridge, Homes for Haringey’s Chief Executive, Mike Jones, Chair of the Board and Bob Watts, Executive Director of Repairs.
Cllr Kober said: “I am delighted Homes for Haringey have taken such a diverse group of apprentices. I am determined that decent homes and building schools for the future are about more than just physical improvements but improve life chances for people in Haringey. It is right that we benefit from these investments through the legacy of apprenticeships.”
Bob Watts, Executive Director of Repairs, added: “I’m pleased the apprentices have all settled into their new roles and are multi tasking with their jobs and relevant college studies.”
