Film premieres on The Sandlings estate
Monday 9 June 2008
Young film makers aged between 11 and 21 have produced their own documentary style films about living on estates managed by Homes for Haringey.
The four estates featured include The Sandlings (N22), Edgecot Grove (N15), Coldfall (N10) and Northumberland Park (N17). The 10 minute films were supported by Homes for Haringey in conjunction with Neighbourhood Management Teams across the borough.
An exclusive debut screening of the Sandlings estate film took place recently at Shropshire Hall, Gladstone Avenue, in Wood Green.
A number of issues raised by the young film makers, working in small teams on their estates, are now being explored.
Some young people praised the fact their estate provides them with a strong community feelings of ‘sticking together’ coupled with strong and supportive connections with neighbours, whilst others reported concerns about personal and community safety and the amount of leisure activities provided.
Mike Jones, chair of the Board, said:
“We wanted another way of involving and capturing the views of the young people living on our estates. It has been a fun project and we will be working with the young people, parents and the agencies involved to take forward and address the issues young people have highlighted.”
The project was launched in December 2007.
