Eight new apprentices join the decent homes programme

Friday 22 May 2009

Eight new apprentices have joined the team working on Homes for Haringey’s decent homes programme in South Tottenham. Tommy Court, Niam Chang-Adjei, Darren Gurjao, Troy Wellington, Daniel Smith, Michael Deller, Ryan Vinn and Sam Reilly are working for Homes for Haringey’s constructor partner, Apollo. All are trainee electricians gaining hands-on experience under supervision whilst studying for their City & Guilds 2330 Electrical Installation qualifications.

Ola Akinfe, Executive Director of Asset Management at Homes for Haringey, said: "We are keen to ensure that the decent homes programme leaves a lasting legacy in the borough that goes beyond the bricks and mortar improvements. Giving young people the opportunity to attain skills that will last them for life and provide job opportunities is just one way of achieving this. We are delighted that Apollo shares this aim, and welcome these eight young people aboard.”

Adam Stevens, Divisional Director of Apollo said, "It makes good sense for a project of this size to offer employment, training and career opportunities to young people. We are committed to fully supporting our apprentices with on-site training and flexibility for college study while they gain their qualifications. We are proud to be starting them off in Haringey.”
