Doris Jackson has celebrated turning 100 with a special birthday card from the Queen along with a visit from Homes for Haringey Chief Executive, Paul Bridge.

On 27 September, the centenarian welcomed Paul to a special birthday coffee morning organised by her fellow residents and staff at Hilldene Court, Muswell Hilll, where she has lived since 1999.

Doris was born in Tufnell Park on 27 September, 1911, and moved to Haringey after the war, where she lived in Fortis Green. Before moving to Hilldene Court, Doris soaked up the sun and sea living in Ibiza.

Doris was thrilled to receive her card from the Queen and told Paul that both her grandparents had worked for the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace.

When asked about her secret to her long life, Doris smiled and revealed that she had finally given up smoking at the age of 98! “No, really,” she added, “I am very grateful for getting this far and really appreciate it.”

Paul spoke with Doris and presented her with a special bouquet. “It was a pleasure to talk with Doris”, he said, “and I am absolutely delighted and honoured to meet her.”
