Countdown to Homes for Haringey's Construction Jobs Fair

Thursday 9 April 2009

Homes for Haringey is hosting its first Construction Jobs Fair on Friday 24 April at Wood Green Library, between 12 noon and 6pm.

This free event is open to anyone interested in working or training for a career in the Construction industry, some general vacancies will also be available.

The Fair will feature a number of local and national exhibitors including Haringey’s £200m Decent Homes Construction Partners - Apollo, Wates, Mullalley and Lovell.

It will provide an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of the high level of construction work currently being undertaken in the borough whilst highlighting new prospects for students and visitors.

Help and support about employment, education and training needs will be available from organisations including the College of North East London (CONEL), Job Centre Plus and Haringey Adult Learning Service (HALS).

Apprentices employed by the housing management organisation will also be available to give first hand accounts of their trades.

In addition to job vacancies, work experience opportunities and CV/interview skills workshops will be facilitated. Other confirmed organisations include British Gas and Oakray Limited. Advisors from the Council’s Haringey Guarantee project, a network of free local service providers offering jobs, study and skills training, will be on hand to assist visitors.

Executive director of Asset Management, Ola Akinfe, said:

“This jobs fair is a great opportunity for anyone looking for employment, training, volunteer work or to study to come and talk to some of our key partners about the opportunities they currently have on offer.

“It is a good time to capitalise on the millions being currently invested in local homes and schools in Haringey under the Decent Homes and Building Schools for the Future programmes. It also reinforces our commitment to reducing local worklessness and unemployment.”
