Christine Bald is 100th Decent Home tenant
Tuesday 5 August 2008
Mrs Christine Bald of Antill Road, Tottenham N15, has become the 100th tenant to receive a decent home refurbishment makeover from Homes for Haringey.
A special visit by the Chief Executive of Homes for Haringey, Paul Bridge, and Cllr John Bevan, Cabinet Member for Housing Services, was made to her home last week where she was presented her with flowers and £50 worth of Argos vouchers. Local contractor, Apollo, who are carrying out refurbishment works to over 4,000 properties in the South Tottenham area also provided a basket of goodies.

Married with four children and four grandchildren, Christine has been a council tenant since 1978 and currently lives in a 2 bedroomed home. She received a range of upgrade improvements to her home including a new kitchen, bathroom, new front door and set of windows plus rewiring throughout the property.
The keen machinist has already sewn various new furnishings for her ‘new home’ which was recently completed.
She said: “I am so very pleased with my new look home. I was genuinely surprised at how much improvement work was carried out within my home which has made a huge difference to the feel and look of it. The contractors were always polite, cleaned up after themselves and left no mess. I really appreciate the decent homes programme. I couldn’t have afforded to carry out these wonderful refurbishments privately – thank you so much.”
Homes for Haringey are currently delivering a five year decent homes improvement programme across the borough on behalf of Haringey Council. The range of works include new kitchens and bathrooms, roofs, front doors, rewiring, double glazing and insulation. Over 11,000 properties will be improved during the programme.
Cllr John Bevan, Cabinet Member for Housing Services, said:
“We reached our first 100th milestone and look forward to delivering decent homes to thousands of tenants during the five year programme. It’s most satisfying to see the high standard of work that is being delivered to tenants homes.”
Paul Bridge, Chief Executive, Homes for Haringey, added:
“It is early days for our decent home investment but it is good to see this first important milestone reached ahead of programme. We will be making sure we learn from these early experiences to further improve the decent homes programme for all of our residents.”
