Arts certificate awards for Campsbourne poets

Tuesday 15 September 2009

Three young people from the Campsbourne estate in Hornsey have been presented with an Arts Award certificate by Hackney Poet Laureate, Adisa.

Adisa, former Performance Poet of the Year, returned to Camspace, the community centre on the estate, to personally commend them for taking part in poetry workshops between April and June 2009. The workshops were organised by artsdepot in conjunction with Homes for Haringey and Haringey Youth Service.

A total of five young people aged between 13 and 18 completed 10 weekly workshops exploring lyrics, rap and poetry. The group worked with performance poet Adisa and support artist Arji, creating their own poetry which they performed as a curtain raiser to Adisa’s show in artsdepot’s studio theatre on 18 June 2009. As part of the project four young people achieved Bronze Arts Awards, equivalent to an NVQ Level 1 or ‘C’ grade GCSE.

Rachel Fell, Homes for Haringey’s youth development officer, added: “This project has been a great opportunity for the young people to give a public reading and express themselves and their views of the world around them.”

The presentation took place on 8 September 2009, at Camspace, 1 Eastfield Road, Hornsey, N8 7AD.
