squatters and empty properties
Squatters
If there is an empty council property, it probably means that it is waiting to be repaired, redecorated or re-let. It is vitally important that these properties stay empty so that someone on the waiting list has the chance to find a home quickly.
The laws on squatting are very complex, and unfortunately we cannot simply evict a person who is squatting.
If you think that someone is squatting in a property, we would be grateful if you could contact your customer service centre or local housing office. We will investigate your report urgently.
Any contact will be strictly confidential.

Empty properties
If you are a Homes for Haringey tenant you must occupy your property as your only or principal home. If you leave your home for any reason you should let us know and make sure the property is secure. If we believe you have abandoned your home we will start legal action to take back the property and let it to someone else.
