major works invoices
We acknowledge that paying for major works bills can be a significant financial strain and so we won’t expect you to pay large major works bills in one go. Once you have received the invoice, you will have the following options:
Pay the bill in full
If you want to pay the bill in full, you must do so within 14 days of receiving it and you will receive a discount of 2.5%.
Interest free loan for 12 months
If you can pay your bill within 12 months, we won’t charge you interest, but you must pay by direct debit. If you choose this option, you will receive a discount of £10 for setting up the direct debit.
Arrange finance from a bank or building society
You can pay by adding the amount to your mortgage if you have a large bill. Your mortgage company may be prepared to add the cost of the work to your mortgage. They will then pay us for the cost of the work and increase your monthly payments to cover the increase in your mortgage.
If you do not have a mortgage or your mortgage company is not willing to provide this service, you may be able to find another lender. If you decide to choose this option, you must tell the Home Ownership team so that we do not take action against you for non-payment.
We understand that it does take time to arrange finance through this method, so we will give you up to three months to make the necessary arrangements. If you cannot do this, you must contact the Home Ownership team to discuss alternative options.
Loan from Homes for Haringey
If you cannot arrange finance from a lender, then Homes for Haringey may be able to provide you with a loan. For further information see the ‘Getting a loan from Homes for Haringey’ section.
