get involved

To provide services that people want, and to meet the needs of our diverse community, customers must be at the heart of everything we do. Homes for Haringey wants you to get involved in making decisions that affect the management of your home and the services you receive.

This section of the website tells you about the ways you can get involved, the benefits of being involved and the help you could receive from the Resident Involvement team. You can choose how to get involved and when. We have opportunities to suit everyone, and if you would like the sound of any of the ways to get involved, we want to hear from you.

2010 Resident Volunteers Awards celebration

All the winners were presented with a special inscribed plaque by Paul Bridge, Chief Executive, Ola Akinfe, Executive Director of Asset Management, and Jackie Thomas, Executive Director of Housing Management. They also received £300 each to spend on community projects of their choice.

Voluntary activities celebrated included working with young people, supporting elderly people and tirelessly campaigning and participating in residents’ associations. In addition, the Special Achievement award went to Wood Green resident, Angie Buzzacott. She said: “I’ve worked on behalf of tenants with Haringey Council and Homes for Haringey for over 18 years. It has been a busy and enjoyable learning curve. This award means so much. I didn’t expect to get it. I’m so humbled and very honoured.”

This year the ceremony included a category to honour the work of resident liaison officers from the Decent Homes programme. The overall award went to South Tottenham based Olivia Dunne, from the Apollo Group.

National Tenant Voice (NTV)

National Tenant Voice is a new organisation for tenants of housing associations, housing co-ops and local authorities (including ALMOs) in England. It is being set up to give tenants a voice, influence and expertise at national level.

The Government's aim is for tenants to have a greater influence over the services they receive. It is supporting the setting up of the National Tenant Voice to help achieve this.

At the heart of National Tenant Voice will be a National Tenant Council of 50 tenants that will meet to debate and discuss key housing policy issues. 24 of the tenants on the National Tenant Council will be nominated by existing tenants' organisations. The remaining 26 are currently being recruited. For more information, visit the Communities and Local Government website.
