What is supported housing?
Supported housing is a service providing sheltered and secure accommodation for older people (normally 55+) with support needs.
How can it benefit me?
Supported housing can provide you with:
- independence – the freedom to come and go as you please
- your own self-contained accommodation
- an alarm system for help in an emergency
- safe and secure surroundings, most with entryphone systems
- a scheme manager to provide you with regular support
- extra support as and when you need it
- introductions to social activities with people of a similar age
Tell me more…
We can provide you with sheltered one-bedroomed, self-contained accommodation. We may also occasionally be able to provide bungalows, two-bedroomed flats and studio flats. Our accommodation is centrally heated with emergency alarms and most homes have entryphone systems.
To promote safe, independent living, we can ensure you receive support and assistance from a scheme support manager who can visit you at home.
Back to the topHow can I apply?
You (or somebody you know) can request an assessment to find out if you are eligible for supported housing.
You can request an assessment form using the contact details below, or you can complete and send one to us now, using our online form.
Back to the topWhat if I need disabled access?
Most supported housing schemes have disabled access. Please note that the assessments office itself (at Woodside House, 294 High Road, Wood Green) does not have any reception facilities as it is a home visits-based service.
Back to the topExclusions
This service is not available to homeowners who have access to enough money of their own to buy more suitable accommodation. If you would like to discuss whether or not you might be eligible, please contact the supported housing assessments team. Alternatively, you can request an assessment by completing our online form below.
The service does not provide emergency accommodation. If you are homeless, please contact Haringey Council’s housing advice team.

Supporting people
If you are moving to a new council home, or if you are already a tenant already and are not coping well on your own, don’t worry, help may be at hand.
As the name suggests, the Supporting People programme is designed for vulnerable people, helping them cope independently in their own home.
