African mask wins recycling competition
Wednesday 12 January 2011
Prize-winner, Iden Obahiagbon from Wood Green shows off her innovative African mask design, made from recycled milk bottles.
The 12 year old from Wood Green was presented with a Mall Shopping City voucher, worth £20, by the Partridge Way Residents’ Association at a design workshop held on Saturday, 8 January, at Newbury House.

The arts competition, organised by the Residents’ Association Committee in November 2009 and supported by Homes for Haringey’s Resident Involvement team, involved producing materials to redesign and give a facelift to the communal recycling areas at Partridge Way. The overall theme was art using recycled materials or artwork which conveys the idea of recycling.
Residents now have a development plan for redesigning the area. Photographs of the winning artwork, alongside new mosaic panels drawn by a professional artist and based on the residents’ proposals, will be created at a workshop in February.
Iden said: “It was a real surprise to win and I am very happy. Art is one of my favourite subjects at school so it was easy for me to feel inspired. I haven’t yet decided on how I’ll spend my voucher but I am looking forward to visiting the Mall.”
