Equality and diversity

Haringey is one of the most diverse boroughs in the UK. We value and celebrate the diversity that exists among residents, our workforce and our Board members. We ensure that our workforce reflects the community it serves. In line with the Equalities Act 2010, we take positive action to ensure there is equality of opportunity and are committed to eliminating discrimination on the grounds of:

It is the responsibility of every employee of Homes for Haringey to uphold and implement our Equality and Diversity policy and the associated guidance. It is the responsibility of each individual manager, at all levels, to plan and provide their services to realise this policy and all our staff received refresher Equalities and Diversity training in 2016.  

What we believe

We believe all our customers should have equal access to services and that no customer or employee should experience discrimination because of who they are. We value the diversity of our customers and staff and know that a diverse workforce helps us to deliver the best services to our customers. We have the following equalities and diversity objectives that were developed with residents:

  • To promote and demonstrate fairness and equality of opportunity in the provision of services.
  • To promote and demonstrate fairness and equality of opportunity in the employment of staff.
  • To achieve measurable progress against our equalities objectives and ensure that we promote equality of opportunity throughout Homes for Haringey and across all of our operations.

What we do

  • We carry out Equality Impact Assessments of major policies/strategies and proposals for major changes in structures and service delivery models.
  • We carry out Equalities Monitoring to ensure that we identify where policies may be exacerbating existing inequalities and producing new ones, and take actions to correct this
  • We have recruitment and personnel related policies that are fair, transparent and supported by procedures that all staff and applicants have confidence in
  • We support events and local area-based activities to promote positive social interaction between different communities and groups.
